Chris Eubank Jr called out by Conor Benn for huge catchweight fight 30-years on from when their dads fought

CHRIS EUBANK JR has two crazy domestic grudge battles to consider against Conor Benn and Billy Joe Saunders while his wait for a world title shot continues.

The 32-year-old Brighton middleweight silenced Welsh enemy Liam Williams on Saturday in Cardiff.

But his mandatory shot at the WBA belt is tied up by the Gennady Golovkin and Ryota Murata bout getting repeatedly delayed by Covid rules in Japan.

Eubank Jr wants two more fights in 2022 and after 24-year-old welterweight Benn’s tongue-in-cheek social media suggestion of a catchweight bout – with the son of his father Nigel’s greatest rival – the spark was lit.

“If the fight was to happen it would be nice,” he said while icing the left hand he floored Williams with two out of four times and then injured. “It would be crazy.

“What fight fan wouldn’t want to see it? Two legends, their sons fighting each other, and they’re both doing big things in the boxing world.

“It doesn’t make any sense right now, but in a couple of years when Benn has filled out a little and I want a little bit of fun, we can get it on, but not right now.”

Saunders, who outpointed Eubank Jr in 2014 but was badly beaten by Canelo Alvarez last May, has been calling his rival’s Boxxer promoters to learn if a rematch could be arranged.

And Eubank Jr, who is still haunted by the defeat, is keen to lure the two-weight world champion back into the ring to settle the score.

He said: “I don’t think much of Billy Joe at all but is it a fight I would take? Yes.

“It has a story, it has two top-tier fighters who don’t like each other. Who doesn’t want to see that fight?

“I don’t know, he doesn’t have anything to offer me, but if the offer is there and it’s the right time and place and the business makes sense, let’s do it.”

Williams talked his way into Saturday’s big-money Sky Sports headliner by insulting the Eubank family for over a year but he was punished from the very opening bell.

It doesn’t make any sense right now, but in a couple of years when Benn has filled out a little and I want a little bit of fun, we can get it on, but not right now.

Chris Eubank Jr on Conor Benn

The Hove man chose to showboat and mock in the second half of the contest, knowing he was well ahead on the scorecards and Williams resorted to illegal tactics

But Eubank admitted he used his own mouth to exact some revenge on the 29-year-old whose face he had already disfigured with precise power shots.

“I bit him once,” he admitted with a grin. “I had to, he was ramming his glove into my face so I just bit it as hard as I could.

“It was personal for me and it never usually is. I would always shake my opponent’s hand but I didn’t here.

“When you talk about someone’s family it is unforgivable and until he makes a public statement that is how it will be.”
