A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of attacking Lorient star Yoane Wissa.
The footballer was rushed to hospital after having ‘burning liquid’ thrown in his face at his home.
According to L’Equipe, a 32-year-old woman from Vannes was arrested after the attack on Thursday.
Wissa needed surgery on his eyes and the 24-year-old Congolese international is in a stable condition in hospital.
The footballer was reportedly asked for his autograph by the suspect earlier in the day before the attack.
He is said to have given it to her as an act of ‘good grace’
A Lorient statement said: “The club, in shock, want to show their support for Yoane and his family and wish their player a speedy recovery.
“FC Lorient is counting on justice to convict the author of this attack.”
The arrested woman is alleged to have also attacked a mother the following day and kidnapped her baby.
Police are continuing to investigate charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, foricble confinement and acts of barbarism.
It is believed that Wissa may yet have suffered serious injuries to his eyes, with his professional career said to be in doubt.
