The England winger, strongly linked with a summer move to Manchester United, made mincemeat of Leipzig’s defence to put Dortmund ahead after just five minutes.

It was then Haaland’s turn to get in on the act when he scored in the 28th minute.

The Norwegian goal machine produced an incredible run to hold off Dayot Upamecano, who will join Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Haaland showed great power and technical ability to quickly trap the ball with one foot before switching to the other.

And as Upamecano fell to the ground, Haaland cooly slotted his shot round Leipzig goalie Peter Gulacsi to give Dortmund a commanding lead.

Sancho effectively put the game to bed moments before half-time when he walked the ball into the back of the net following a barnstorming counter-attack.

Dortmund went into cruise control in the second half.

And they paid the price for their relaxed attitude when Spain international Dani Olmo pulled one back for Leipzig in the 71st minute.

It set up a nervy final as Julian Nagelsmann’s men dominated the ball in a bid to find another goal.

However, Leipzig’s advance into Dortmund’s half inevitably left space.

And Haaland took full advantage in the 87th minute to fire in a fourth for Dortmund and wrap up the game.

It is the club’s first German Cup win since 2017 when Thomas Tuchel led them to glory.

But for Leipzig, it marks a second final defeat in three years.

And with Nagelsmann joining Upamecano at Bayern Munich this summer, they’ll be hoping to land a manager who can finally end their trophy drought.
