Watch Derby ace Waghorn’s sickening clash with post before incredibly scoring two goals to save club from relegation

MARTYN WAGHORN recovered from a horror collision with the post to score twice in Derby’s dramatic Championship survival.

Less than 15 minutes into their D-Day 3-3 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, Waghorn bravely launched himself at a cross in an attempt to score the opener.

The teasing delivery found the backpost and the striker narrowly directed his effort agonisingly wide of the target.

But throwing his body on the line left him in agony on the turf after clattering into the woodwork at pace.

Viewers could hear the impact from their TV sets at home as medics ran onto the pitch.

Waghorn was barely moving on the turf raising worries that he was knocked out unconscious.

Those fears were eased when he finally got back to his feet after four minutes before making his way back onto the field.

Luckily for Waghorn, the striker narrowly missed smashing his face with his chest taking the brunt of the force.

And boss Wayne Rooney will be counting his lucky stars as Waghorn would prove pivotal as Derby avoided relegation in dramatic fashion.

Derby looked doomed when Sam Hutchinson handed Sheffield Wednesday a lead on half-time.

Waghorn then grabbed his first minutes into the second period before Patrick Roberts turned the game on its head.

Callum Paterson then sent Derby back into the bottom three before Julian Borner fired Wednesday into the lead – and out of the relegation zone.

Cardiff’s late equaliser against Rotherham meant Waghorn’s 78th minute penalty kept Derby in the Championship to salvage a crucial point.
