GUNTER REACTS
Wales star Chris Gunter reached 100 international caps and revealed he was always after that record especially when he reached 90 appearances for the national team.
Gunter said: “I want to turn up and play for Wales, so once you get to the 90s then of course you want to get to 100.
“I wanted to do it in the end for my family, for my friends who I know will be extremely proud.
“It’s a shame no one could be here, but they don’t need to tonight”
WHAT’S NEXT
Wales regained some confidence following Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Belgium away.
The Dragons are now set to take on the Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier at home on Tuesday.
The Welsh players will then rejoin their clubs before coming back on June 5 for an international friendly with Albania.
They will then kick off their delayed Euro 2020 campaign
FOR THE RECORD
Wales picked up a fantastic result against Mexico even though key players, like Ben Davies, Joe Allen and Aaron Ramsey, were missing – Gareth Bale and Hal Robson-Kanu also weren’t part of the starting line-up.
El Tri came into the match having been enjoying a 10-match unbeaten streak, which extended all the way back to September 2019 when they lost 4-0 to Argentina in a friendly.
Tata Martino’s men had amassed a staggering nine wins as well as five clean sheets along the way, with their most notable victory being a 1-0 win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam last October thanks to Raul Jimenez’s goal.
Mexico had scored 26 goals and conceded just seven throughout that undefeated run.
Oh, and tonight’s result also marked Wales’ first ever victory over the Latin Americans after five efforts!
