  • THAT’S ALL FROM WEMBLEY

A joint-record eighth League Cup for Manchester City, a fourth in a row, and potentially the first of three trophies for the club this season.

There won’t be too much time for celebration, however, before preparations for Paris Saint-Germain and the Champions League begin.

For Tottenham, the wait for silverware goes on. Will the next man in charge be the one to bring a winning mentality back to north London?

We’ll leave you with Dave Kidd’s match report from Wembley so you can relive Laporte’s late winner and City’s success.

    Goodnight.

  • RYAN’S REACTION

Spurs interim boss Ryan Mason has also spoken about his pride at the effort put in by his players this afternoon, also insisting that Aymeric Laporte’s fouls in the first half are not the talking point.

[Manchester City] are a great side, an incredible team, but I think our group of players gave everything with what they have had to deal with in the last seven days. That is something to be proud of. I am very disappointed with the result, but I cannot fault the lads’ effort and commitment today.

  • DEPARTING DUO?

We know Sergio Aguero is definitely heading for pastures new in the summer, but could captain Fernandinho also be on his way out of the Etihad?

The Brazilian, who turns 36 next month and is out of contract in June, has just posed for photographs with his long-term teammate.

  • PROUD PEP

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola spoke with pride about his players at full time, praising not just their performance at Wembley today, but the way they’ve gone about their game in these past few months during lockdown.

Today we are incredibly happy to win four in a row in this competition, but in the last 33 games, we’ve won 30 and this is amazing. Like everyone in lockdown, we’re suffering in this different life, but we played with incredible personality to try to win the game from the first minute.

  • THE MATCH WINNER

Premier League clubs and players will take part in a social media blackout next weekend in the continued fight against racism, but Aymeric Laporte has wasted no time in taking to Twitter this evening to celebrate City’s cup success.

  • KANE UNDER A CLOUD

So much of the build-up to this final was centred around Harry Kane’s availability.

Whether fully fit or not, the Tottenham striker got the nod for selection but failed to either register a shot or create a chance for the first time in two and a half years.

  • SON’S CRYING

    Nice one.

It’s unfortunate that one of the nicest guys in the Premier League is going to start a new series of memes, but when it’s going against you…

  • CITY CELEBRATE

Fernandinho lifts the Carabao Cup Final for a record sixth time, and the fourth year in a row.

  • FANTASTIC PHIL FODEN

Maybe the City youngster should play in a European Super League all of his own.

  • LUCKY LAPORTE?

Aymeric Laporte may not have even played today had it not been for John Stones’ suspension, but he’s the man making headlines tonight after heading the winning goal in the Carabao Cup Final.

However, the Frenchman could consider himself fortunate having avoided a booking early on for a foul on Lucas Moura before picking up a yellow later for a foul on the same player.

  • STAT’S ALL FOLKS

The big numbers from the big final…

  • FT: MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

Eight is the number! Manchester City win the League Cup for a joint-record eighth time thanks to Aymeric Laporte’s goal eight minutes from time. Spurs will have their complaints that the matchwinner should not have even been on the pitch after twice fouling Lucas Moura in the first half, but the victory is no more than City deserved. Pep Guardiola’s team were dominant from the off, creative on the ball and lacked only a killer instinct in the final third.

  • PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
MANCHESTER CITY WIN THE CARABAO CUP!

  • MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

90+2. Blue Moon rings around Wembley. Who knew 2,000 people could make such a noise? How we’ve missed football fans at games.

  • MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

90+1. Brilliant footwork from Foden takes him past one, past two and into the area. His shot is blocked by Alderweireld.

    90. Three minutes stand between Manchester City and their fourth League Cup success in a row.

  • MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

    89. Ryan Mason goes for broke by throwing on Steven Bergwijn in place of defender Serge Aurier.

  • MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

    88. Laporte is up an on the end of another set-piece, but this time he’s off target with the header.

  • MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

    86. It’s another change for City. De Bruyne departs to huge cheers from their 2,000 supporters, and is replaced by Bernardo Silva.

  • MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

    84. Despite the goal, Pep Guardiola goes ahead and makes his intended change with Fernandinho replaced by Rodrigo.

  • MAN CITY 1-0 SPURS

    82. With eight minutes remaining, City have finally got their goal!

Debate will rage, not over the goal itself, but whether the scorer should even be on the pitch.

Aymeric Laporte is the man mobbed after heading in Kevin De Bruyne’s free-kick at the far post, but his two earlier fouls on Lucas Moura – for which he was only cautioned once – are even harder for Spurs fans to swallow now.

The Frenchman got up above compatriot Moussa Sissoko to glance his effort into the corner despite the desperate attempt of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg on the line.

  • GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!
    AYMERIC LAPORTE BREAKS THE DEADLOCK!!

  • MAN CITY 0-0 SPURS

    80. There may only be a couple of thousand of them, but the Spurs fans get behind their team for the final barrage.

Sterling wins a free-kick by the corner flag in front of them.

  • MAN CITY 0-0 SPURS

    78. Pep Guardiola looks to be readying a change. He’s certainly got a strong bench to choose from.

  • MAN CITY 0-0 SPURS

    76. Reguillon gets in behind Walker, only for the City defender – fairly or unfairly – to win the ball back.

There’s no free-kick awarded but the Tottenham left-back looks in some discomfort, and it’s Walker himself that eventually puts the ball of play so his opponent can receive treatment.
