Tottenham close in on axed Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo as new manager after hunt saw TEN linked with job

TOTTENHAM finally look set to end their search for a new manager with the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo.

The Portuguese boss is ready to step straight back into management after leaving Wolves at the end of the season.

Daniel Levy’s farcical hunt for a new boss saw a staggering TEN candidates linked with the job.

Spurs’ original target Julian Nagelsmann joined Bayern Munich before Antonio Conte also turned down a return to the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino was then in the headlines for a shock return to North London but Levy failed to lure him away from Paris Saint-Germain.

Brendan Rodgers ruled himself out of the job as Levy then made a shock move for ex-Roma manager Paulo Fonseca.

But that deal collapsed over financial reasons before fans vettoed a move for Gennaro Gattuso.

Spanish duo Ernesto Valverde and Julen Lopetegui also had no interest while rumours of Erik ten Hag’s potential appointment fell flat.

Ex-Bayern boss Hansi Flick was also mentioned but he is braced to take over from Joachim Low with the Germany national side.

Espirito Santo previously held talks with Everton and Crystal Palace over their vacant positions.

The 47-year-old spent four years at the Molineux, leading the club to the Premier League and recorded back-to-back seventh placed finishes.

He also guided them to the Europa League quarter-finals last season.

Spurs had been on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Jose Mourinho in April – just days before their Carabao Cup final.

Ryan Mason was appointed interim until the end of the season as Levy ran the rule over his potential managerial targets.
