THAT’S A WRAP
Thanks for joining us this evening, plenty of drama tonight.
Our match report can be your bedtime reading!
VAR DRAMA
Timo Werner won a contentious penalty this evening with some claiming he deliberately ran into Ramsdale to win a penalty.
The Sky Sports team were divided on whether it should have been given. Graeme Souness said: “He made no attempt to avoid the goalkeeper, he could have damaged the goalkeeper big-time with that.
“He overhits the ball and then appears to run straight at him.
“If he’d caught him with his knee cap instead of his thigh, Ramsdale would be in hospital tonight.”
TUCHEL TALKS
Speaking on Sky Sports, Thomas Tuchel says: “You arrive in February in Sheffield, you know what’s waiting for you- it feels like a cup game when you arrive here, against a team full of energy, very physical and good at defending.
“You have to accept it’s not going to be easy.
“We had some difficult moments to overcome, but it was a deserved win and from that, we can build confidence. “
On Timo Werner, Tuchel says: “When he plays like this, we are very happy, it’s a big step forward.
“He won a decisive penalty against Tottenham and again today, it was also an amazing assist from him. If he carries on like this the goals will come.”
HOW’S STAT?
TIMO WERNER TALKS
When asked on the ref’s decision not to immediately point to the penalty spot, Werner says: “I was shocked, as I thought it was a clear penalty, I pushed the ball away from him [Ramsdale] and he got me.
“VAR is good and helped the referee. In football when someone does mistakes a goal comes -both teams made mistakes today. “
On the injury he’s suffered tonight, Werner says: “I have a dead leg from that penalty tackle – the 10/15 minutes after were hard, so I told the manager to take me off.
“I think it’s better to have 11 fit players on the pitch not ten and a half. “
MAN OF THE MATCH
Speaking on Sky Sports, Timo Werner says: “I think it was a good win for us, it was a difficult game against a tightly-defended Sheiffield.
“From myself, again, no goal, but it’s good to see I can help the team with other things- so I keep going.
“Two assists like today is good, but as a striker you want to score.
“It’s a long period in my career not to score, but you have to keep trying and the goals will come.”
On his new manager, he says: “Every manager is different in how they want to play- he gives us lots of ideas, so now I’m a left ten.
“It’s very good for me and I think the last wins were a good move from the manager.”
