JOHN FLECK has tested positive for Covid-19 at Scotland’s Spanish training camp.
The Sheffield United midfielder WON’T therefore be flying to Portugal for tomorrow night’s friendly against the Netherlands.
The SFA say the rest of the squad has been re-tested and returned negative results.
A statement read: “The Scottish FA can confirm that John Fleck has tested positive for COVID-19 at the Scotland National Team basecamp at La Finca.
“As a result he will self isolate as per Spanish Government guidelines and therefore not fly to Portugal for tomorrow’ match against the Netherlands.
“The rest of the squad was retested for COVI-19 and returned negative results today.”
Steve Clarke said Fleck was asymptomatic and reckons he had the virus before he arrived at the camp – rather than catching it whilst in Spain.
“He’s fine, no symptoms. Obviously he has to isolate for a few days now. So we will keep an eye on him, we will look after him as we do everybody. And hopefully it stops there.
“I am looking at the information we have got and relying on the doc and the medical opinion.
“He is 99% sure John brought it with him, into the camp. it is just one of those things. We know the state of the world at the moment with the pandemic and we just need to deal with it.
“As other countries might have to deal with it as well.
“In terms of John he will be in isolation until he returns a couple of negative tests.
“I am not quite sure what the guidelines are in Spain in terms of how many days he would have to isolate but we will be testing every day with John and waiting for him to return a few negative tests.
“For everyone else, it is just carry on the good work.
