Sam Allardyce brands Michail Antonio’s comments ‘a load of crap’ in attack on West Ham ace and ‘long ball’ critics

SAM ALLARDYCE hit out at Michail Antonio and branded his post-match comments ‘disgusting’ and ‘a load of crap.’

West Ham beat West Brom 3-1 at The Hawthorns with Allardyce confirming that he will leave The Baggies at the end of the season after failing to avoid relegation.

Antonio, who scored the third goal, spoke about Big Sam’s tactics, telling Sky Sports: “It was [a massive win]. They came out and played some free-flowing football.

“Big guys, hitting the channels… You know how Sam always plays but we came here and dug deep, went 1-0 down but managed to come back and get clear.”

Allardyce took exception to Antonio’s words and launched a fiery tirade.

The soon to be ex-West Brom boss responded: “Unlike Michail Antonio’s statement that I just heard before, he came out here and said we’ve got big men who play in the channels.

“He just insulted me and my team.

“I know he’s a nice lad but it was disgusting what he said. I think he should go back and watch the game and see how we really played.

“Our front two are 5ft 10in and 5ft 9in so I don’t know what big men he saw running in the channels.”

Asked about his reputation as a saviour for relegation-threatened clubs, Allardyce went on another rant.

“That’s what I’ve been for the last six or seven years because that’s all you lot ever talk about,” he said.

“Just like Michail Antonio just said – ‘it’s Sam with long ball, it’s Sam with the way he plays’.

“It’s a load of crap and it always has been a load of crap because I’ve never played the same way at any club I’ve ever been at.

“If you thought that was long ball today then somebody is deluded.

“We played long ball at Liverpool because it was the right way to play and should have got a result against them. They didn’t like it.

“It showed everybody if you play a simple game against Liverpool you can get at them, you can get behind them and you can get chances.

“They were lucky to beat us tonight, dead lucky. Today West Ham didn’t deserve to beat us 3-1, but that was our fault not anybody else’s.”
