Phil Neville was left stunned by Man Utd icon Roy Keane turning up to wedding and says Irishman has ‘soft spot’ for him

PHIL NEVILLE has revealed he was left stunned after Roy Keane turned up to his wedding – saying the Irishman has a ‘soft spot’ for him.

The Irish hardman recently joked he doesn’t even speak to wife of 20 years, Theresa, for more than five minutes following Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell’s controversial chat with Billy Gilmour.

But Neville has claimed Keane has a ‘soft spot’ for him – with the latter’s famously feisty relationship with big brother Gary helping his cause.

Speaking on The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher, Neville said: “Do you know what? I think he had a soft spot for me.

“He actually turned up to my wedding… and he would never turn up to anyone else’s wedding.

“He turned up to mine and had a good time – and his kids went to school with my kids.

“Every time I see him now, I think ‘he has a little bit of a soft spot for me’.

“I think because he hated Gary [Neville] so much – he used to fight with Gary every day – he saw me as the nice one.”

Neville even named Keane in his dream five-a-side team, along with former Man Utd team-mates Peter Schmeichel, Jaap Stam and Ryan Giggs.

The Inter Miami boss also surprisingly named Steven Gerrard in his team, admitting he’s the one Liverpool player he desperately wanted at United.

Neville said: “Schmeichel, Stam… Stam was a monster. He won every ball.

“He was the best I played with, over Rio Ferdinand, yourself (Carragher), John Terry, Tony Adams…

“Stam was a rock and probably one of the best that I’ve played with.

“Keane – midfield, captain. He had one of the biggest influences on me in my career, Keane.

“Giggs has to be in the team… and I’m going to go Stevie G. I love Stevie G.

“I was always in awe. If there was ever a Liverpool player I wanted to be a United player, he was the one.”
