Paul Pogba claims Man Utd are good enough to win Premier League title after closing gap on fierce rivals City

PAUL POGBA reckons Manchester United are good enough to win the Premier League title again after closing the gap on rivals City.

The Red Devils last lifted the trophy back in 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season at Old Trafford.

Since then, City have three title wins under their belt and look on course to secure a fourth in the coming weeks.

Pep Guardiola’s side sit ten points clear of second-placed United with five games to go.

But Pogba fired a warning to the neighbours across town.

The French midfielder told the BBC’s Football Focus: “We are getting closer and closer.

“We see that we were struggling a little bit, we know that, but we don’t have to look back. We have to look forward.

“What’s forward now is second [place], now we get closer to City, who were, before, to be honest way ahead of us.

“Now we show them that we can compete. We show that we are here and that we have a team to go and win the title.

“It’s just a few details. We can do it, for sure.

BETTING SPECIAL – 80/1 FOR A PENALTY FOR EITHER SIDE

“Liverpool did it, City did it and now we’re there. We have to show that we can make it as well. That’s the next goal.”

City have finished above United in each of the last seven seasons since Fergie’s exit.

In the years the Citizens have won the league, the Red Devils were 22, 19 and 32 points adrift.

The gap last season was 15 points between the Manchester clubs in second and third as Liverpool romped away with it.

And now Pogba, who is currently out of contract in 2022, is hoping to overturn the deficit next term and wrestle the Premier League back.

On the European front, both sides will have high hopes of glory this season.

City edged out PSG 2-1 in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final to take the advantage back to the Etihad.

Pogba was on target as United thumped Roma 6-2 at the same stage in the Europa League and have one-and-a-half feet in the final and a first piece of silverware in four years.
