Olivier Giroud set to STAY at Chelsea in transfer window despite interest from Juventus and Inter Milan in striker

OLIVIER GIROUD is reportedly set to stay at Chelsea this month despite interest from Juventus and Inter Milan.

Goal claims the French striker, 34, will see out the remainder of his Stamford Bridge contract after a mixed season under Frank Lampard.

Giroud struggled for minutes during the first few months of the new term, with Tammy Abraham preferred in attack.

But the Chelsea pensioner showed his class when called upon and has ended up scoring nine goals in 15 games.

Despite fighting his way back into contention, it was thought Giroud was exploring new avenues this winter in order to keep his starting place for France at the Euros.

Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte has long been a fan, having signed Giroud for Chelsea from Arsenal in 2018.

Meanwhile, Juventus are said to have joined the race for Giroud’s signature as they look to strengthen their forward line.

However, the FA Cup and Europa League winner will instead remain put for the last six months of his Chelsea contract.

Giroud told RMC Sport: “My career, in the short term, I see it at Chelsea.

“Now, we know things go quickly in football, both in good and bad ways. I want to keep my head clear and focus on the pitch.

“I’m coming to the end of my contract at Chelsea in June, even if we have the option of another year.

“We’ll go over things at the end of the year. But, once again, I have the ambition of winning something with Chelsea this season because I have a lot of hope due to the quality of our squad.”

Giroud has scored a total of 37 goals in 103 games for Chelsea during a three-year stay.

Before that, he netted 105 times in 253 appearances for Arsenal in five-and-a-half years.

Giroud’s biggest triumph came with the French national team as he led them to glory at the 2018 World Cup.

He is also his country’s second-highest goalscorer with 44 goals in 105 caps, seven behind leader Thierry Henry.
