Newcastle keen on transfer for Arsenal flop Mavropanos in desperate bid to shore up defence in January

NEWCASTLE are reportedly keen on signing Arsenal flop Konstantinos Mavropanos in a bid to bolster their defensive options in January.

The Greek defender is currently out on loan at Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart, where he has made 15 appearances so far this season.

And his fine form has attracted interest from a host of Premier League and European clubs.

According to Bild, Stuttgart have the option to buy the 24-year-old for just £2.5million, but could then look to sell him on and make a cool £20m-plus profit.

The likes of Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle and West Ham all remain interested with Mavropanos unlikely to continue with Stuttgart past this season.

The centre-back has four goals to his name this term, something which would be beneficial to both Prem clubs.

Newcastle are desperate for goals in their bid to stay in the top flight.

And West Ham have 32 league goals since David Moyes’ return to the club in 2019.

Mavropanos is unlikely to force his way back into Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans, with both summer signing Ben White and Gabriel forming a strong partnership.

The Gunners also have Rob Holding or Kieran Tierney who could step into the backline of required.
