NEWCASTLE United boss Steve Bruce is in talks with Watford to sign midfielder Will Hughes.
Bruce is looking for more options in the heart of his side and hopes to persuade Hughes to head to the Toon in a deal worth around £12 million.
Hughes caught the eye for Hornets in the Championship but they are willing to let him go as they bring in new players.
Bruce wants to wheel and deal for a couple of additions to his squad amid the uncertainty about the club’s long term ownership.
Newcastle are working under a tight budget which could stall a move for Hughes, and Bruce could consider offering players to Watford in a potential swap deal.
One such player could be midfielder Isaac Hayden, as Watford are interested and could take him as part of the deal.
Hayden’s place in Bruce’s side was already under threat and new arrivals would make it even harder for him to play in future.
And the Hornets are also ready to sign Stoke’s forgotten midfielder Peter Etebo – and clear the way for Will Hughes to leave.
The Premier League new boys are tying up a deal for the Nigerian who is available on loan or to buy at the Potters.
Etebo has been on loan in Turkey for two seasons and has no future at Stoke in the Championship.
He has made just 51 appearances for Stoke since arriving in 2018.
And the deal would help Watford move out midfielder Hughes.

Sweden international Emil Krafth could be on his way out, as he has fallen down the pecking order in recent months.
The Magpies were also linked with Southampton’s Marion Lemina before Mike Ashley refused to pay the £4m fee set for the midfielder.
