ENGLAND stars, football legends and celebrities have taken to Twitter after the Three Lions’ triumph over Germany at Euro 2020.
Gareth Southgate’s men defeated their bitter rivals for the first time in the knockout stages of a major competition since the 1966 World Cup with a score of 2-0.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring on 75 minutes when he slotted the ball past Manuel Neuer – following a beautiful pass by Luke Shaw – in front of a passionate home crowd at Wembley.
England captain Harry Kane finally found the back of the net on 86 minutes for his first goal of the tournament, after a fine assist by Jack Grealish, sealing qualification to the quarter-finals.
Twitter has been on fire after this famous victory, which marked Joachim Low’s last ever match in charge of Germany.
Football legends took to social media with Gary Lineker sharing a spicy post that reflected what many of us thought after the second goal.
Lineker also believes it is now time the old cliche about Germans always winning be put to bed.
Manchester United great Rio Ferdinand shared a video of himself celebrating, whereas Gary Neville praised Southgate’s incredible job in the dugout.
Piers Morgan hailed several players, like Sterling, Jordan Pickford, Shaw, Grealish and Kane, as well as the fans.
Some of England’s biggest heroes also shared jubilant posts to honour the historic victory, with many fans now believing it’s coming home.
Kane tweeted: “Absolutely buzzing!! Massive performance in front of a rocking Wembley!!! Get in there!!”
Kieran Trippier posted: “No words to describe my feeling tonight. A brilliant performance topped with a clean sheet. The fans were outstanding tonight we could hear all of you. Quarter finals Saturday!!!”
And Grealish wrote: “England 2-0 Germany! What a day. Fans were UNBELIEVABLE.”
England are now scheduled to face either Sweden or Ukraine on Saturday at the Olimpico.
