ARSENAL goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has spoken of his desire to be England’s No1 at the World Cup in Qatar next year.
The 23-year-old has been a standout player for the Gunners this season after joining from Sheffield United in a deal rising to £30million.
Ramsdale is yet to taste defeat from his seven outings in all competitions for Arsenal – keeping four clean sheets in the process.
And his fine form has him dreaming of starting between the sticks for England at the World Cup.
The former AFC Wimbledon loanee was named in Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2020 squad, but didn’t feature as Everton ace Jordan Pickford was preferred instead.
After ousting Bernd Leno from Arsenal’s line-up, Ramsdale has now set his sights on keeping Pickford out of the England team.
Discussing his Euro 2020 call-up with the Dons’ website, he said: “Me and the Mrs were going to go on holiday and go and chill.
“The next thing you know, I’m in the squad, I’m fully part of it and it was some of the best weeks of my life! I keep saying it was a great lad’s holiday!

“That’s just the team spirit we had, and we were just a few kicks away from achieving something great.
“It’s just added momentum and hunger to do well in the World Cup and hopefully I can be a part of that again and hopefully that’ll be to do with a starting role.”
The ex-Bournemouth also commented on his battle with Leno at the Emirates – insisting he will keep fighting to remain Mikel Arteta’s No1.
He remarked: “It could quite easily be taken away, just as quickly as I got in.
“For me, it’s to stay in the team week-by-week and keep producing good performances which the team and the staff are happy with.
“That’s all I’m bothered about. I’m loving the connection I’ve got with the fans there, like I did here, but ultimately, they are not the ones picking the team.
“If I keep the manager happy, which I’m doing now, I’ll be doing well.”
