Mason Mount shares emotional throwback pic aged 6 in Chelsea kit and reveals pride after captaining club

MASON MOUNT has revealed a picture of him in a Chelsea kit at the age of 6 after captaining the Blues for the first time at the weekend.

The 22-year-old became the youngest skipper for the club since John Terry when he led his side to a 3-1 victory over Luton Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

And Mount has now opened up about just how special it was to lead his boyhood side.

Speaking on Twitter, he said: “Captaining the club I’ve been at since the age of 6, no words can describe the emotion and immense pride!”

Mount did Chelsea manager Frank Lampard proud with his performance against Luton.

The England international led by example and controlled the game to keep last year’s FA Cup runners-up in the competition.

Mount has scored three goals and assisted another six in an impressive start to the 2020-21 campaign.

But less can be said about Chelsea’s recent run of form as they have struggled for consistency in the Premier League.

The Blues have slipped to ninth in the table after just one win in five games, with their last league match culminating in a dismal 2-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester.

Lampard has come under increasing pressure to get the best out of his new signings, in particular the German duo of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Werner’s goalscoring drought continued against Luton at the weekend as he missed from the penalty spot.

Next up for Chelsea is a home match against Wolves in the Premier League on Wednesday.
