MASON GREENWOOD has given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a new problem, which could be a huge concern for Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani.
When the line-up was announced on the opening day of the season, there was a rising feeling within the Manchester United fanbase that the side will not be able to overcome Leeds United without a natural No9 in the team.
With Martial on the bench and Cavani in isolation, it was teenager Greenwood who rose to the occasion and took his opportunity.
For sure, the highlight moment of the match for the youngster was his well-taken goal to restore the side’s lead in the 52nd minute, resulting in the whole of the Stretford End erupting in celebration.
However, his off-ball movement, dribbling ability, high pressing when required, clearly showed how complete he is as a forward and how dangerous he is from any attacking position.
One of the important requirements for a forward, is to be a huge threat in the attacking phase as well as keep the opposition’s defence on their toes throughout the game, which is something he did very well.
With his runs away from the middle of the pitch onto the flanks, it caused many problems for Leeds’ defence, as they followed his runs and left enough space for Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba to roam and advance into, leading to United scoring in quick succession in the second half.
At 19-years-old, Greenwood has already achieved 31 goals in all competitions at Man Utd, as he recently became the fourth-highest scoring teenager in Premier League history with 19 goals.

Given that time and age is on his side, he could potentially be the one player to target Wayne Rooney’s 183 Premier League goals as a Red Devil, which can be achievable if he pushes himself.
Now, with how he has matured as a player and determined he is to succeed at Old Trafford, he leaves Solskjaer with a problem and a positive one, who will have to think twice when selecting his starting striker for the Wolves fixture and the matches after the international break.
Furthermore, with how the side looked more effective and in control of their recent game against Southampton when Martial went off the pitch, it will leave the manager and the coaches at the club thinking of sticking with Greenwood up front permanently, who is producing the needed goods.
Not only that, but his confidence and winning mentality for a young player is impressive, where he does not doubt his own ability and does not settle for less.
Also, with recent reports stating how Greenwood has become an influential figure within the dressing room, there is nothing stopping him from being successful at the club and being one of the first players mentioned on the team sheet.
As Marcus Rashford remains on the sidelines for the next couple of months and there is no certainty on whether Daniel James will be a regular starter or not, the Bradford-born forward will be dependent on to provide the intelligent movement and burst of pace on the attacking front.
This is actually something that has not been provided constantly or effectively by both Cavani and Martial.
Overall, Cavani and Martial should be hugely concerned about the lack of opportunities they could potentially receive of starting league matches, as Greenwood is highly regarded as the best finisher at the club along with being one of the few players who are expected to thrive in a more attacking style, which has reportedly been mentioned time and time again ahead of the new season.
