MARIO GOTZE’S brother Felix was rushed to intensive care after fracturing his skull playing for Kaiserslautern.

Felix, 23, suffered the injury after clashing with team-mate Boris Tomiak, 22, in their game against Viktoria Berlin on Sunday.

The defender was stretchered off after 72 minutes and taken straight into an ICU.

German third-tier side Kaiserslautern announced Gotze suffered a hairline fracture but revealed the centre-back is ‘doing well so far’.

They tweeted: “We would like to thank you for the many recovery wishes that we received from our environment, but also from the employees and supporters of @ViktoriaBerlin achieved.

“Felix Götze is still receiving medical treatment in a Berlin hospital.

“The diagnosis of a hairline crack in the skull was provisionally made here.

“Felix is ​​currently in the intensive care unit for further observation and examination, but given the circumstances, he is doing well so far.

“We will keep you up to date as soon as there is anything new. Until then, we all send a lot of strength & recovery wishes to our number 24.”

Gotze’s manager Marco Antwerpen said: “When you see something like that, it naturally takes you with you. 

“I saw the boy, he was no longer really responsive. We hope it’s nothing worse.”

Gotze played for Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich – two of Mario’s ex-teams – at youth level.

He then graduated from Bayern’s second team to their senior squad in 2017 and spent one year with the German giants before leaving.

He signed for FC Augsburg but has spent the last two seasons on loan at Kaiserslautern.
