OLD FOES
Liverpool have been eliminated from the FA Cup by Manchester United more than they have any other opponent in the competition’s history.
Including final defeats, the Red Devils have knocked Liverpool out of the competition nine times.
UP FOR THE CUP
Manchester United and Liverpool have won this tournament a whopping NINETEEN tines between them.
The Red Devils have lifted the famous old trophy twelve times, while Liverpool have won the tournament seven times.
Both managers will see this wide open season as a chance to add to that tally.
DIRK’S DELIGHT
The last time the two sides met in the FA Cup Dirk Kuyt netted an 88th minute winner for the Reds.
The two sides certainly have some history when facing each other in this competition.
SUPER SCOTT
Here is the goal from Scott McTominay that secured Manchester United’s place in the fourth round.
HOW THEY GOT HERE
Liverpool reached the fourth round with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa at the start of January.
The Red Devils meanwhile edged past Watford 1-0 at Old Trafford thanks to an early goal from Scott McTominay.
The winner of this afternoon’s clash will face West Ham United in the fifth round.
ON THIS DAY
Twenty-One years ago today Ole Gunnar Solskjaer bagged the winner for Red Devils in a FA Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool.
The score that day was Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool.
FA CUP FOES
After winning seven consecutive FA Cup ties against Liverpool between 1948 and 1999, Manchester United have lost two of their last three against the Reds in the competition.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will be hoping to end that run today.
GOOD AFTERNOON
Welcome to our live blog of Manchester United against Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round.
The two sides meet for the second time in two weekends after last Sunday’s 0-0 draw at Anfield.
The Red Devils will come into the game full of confidence, facing a Liverpool side who have won just once in their last six games in all competitions.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s side will feel unlucky not to have won at Anfield last week but for two crucial saves from Alisson to deny Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.
This afternoon’s clash provides the opportunity for one of these two bitter rivals to progress to the last sixteen of the competition.
Liverpool though will be desperate to turn around their recent form, and what better place for them to do so then at the ground of one of their fiercest rivals.
That means Jurgen Klopp could opt for a full strength team to try and halt Liverpool’s run of poor results.
Both managers are expected to name strong sides, despite the tendency for Premier League teams to rest first team players in the cup.
Kick off is at 5pm and team news will follow shortly.
