Man Utd title winner Buttner trying to revive career with Dutch minnows RKC Waalwijk after ugly Apollon Limassol exit

MANCHESTER UNITED flop Alexander Buttner is trying to revive his stalled career – with Dutch minnows RKC Waalwijk.

The ex-Red Devils defender, 32, helped Man Utd lift their most recent Premier League crown eight years ago under Sir Alex Ferguson.

He also netted in Fergie’s last game as manager of the club in a 5-5 draw with West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Buttner scored twice in 28 games for United before leaving in 2014 for Russian outfit Dynamo Moscow.

Since then, he has played for Anderlecht, Vitesse Arnhem and New England Revolution, and joined Apollon Limassol in January.

However, his move to Cyprus swiftly turned sour after local media claimed the left-back was released due to fitness concerns.

Meanwhile, the player’s advisors insisted Apollon had failed to fulfil contractual promises.

Former Holland Under-20 international Buttner has now begun training with Waalwijk in the hope of landing a deal with the Dutch side.

The Eredivisie strugglers only escaped a relegation play-off place on goal difference last season.

They play at the 7,500-capacity Mandemakers Stadion, the Dutch top flight’s smallest ground.

A club spokesman said on Friday: “RKC Waalwijk welcomes Alexander Buttner to training from today onwards.

“The defender will train together with coach Joseph Oosting’s squad, to keep up his fitness.”
