Man Utd promote Anthony Elanga to first-team for Europa League clash with Granada with Solskjaer huge fan of 18-year-old

MANCHESTER UNITED youngster Anthony Elanga is in contention to face Granada on Thursday after being added to the club’s Europa League squad.

The 18-year-old winger – who has chipped in with eight goals and three assists for the U23s this season – will fly out with the squad to Spain on Wednesday.

United issued a statement on their website where they announced the Sweden youth international has been added to their ‘B’ list for the Uefa competition.

Under Uefa rules, homegrown players are allowed to be added to a club’s Europa League squad, and Elanga has been included after recovering from a collarbone injury.

Elanga – who has been at United since the age of 12 – penned a new contract at Old Trafford last month after rising through the yanks.

He was awarded the prestigious Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player of the Year award in September after banging in seven goals in nine U18 Premier League matches.

He got a taste of first-team football under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last summer when he came on as a substitute in the pre-season clash against Aston Villa.

Speaking last year, Elanga declared that he was desperate to follow in the footsteps of Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

He said: “You look at the likes of Mason and Rashy, there is a pathway there.

“It just shows you that if you’re willing to put the work into it and continue to work hard day in, day out in training there’s a pathway for you there.

“Obviously we’ve got a manager in Ole trusting the youngsters, so there’s a pathway there and I’ve just got to keep working hard.

“In training I’m always working hard and the way that I train is the way that I play.

“You can see that in the results and I’m just happy at the moment, I’m enjoying my football.”
