EDINSON CAVANI revealed he is receiving recurring treatment for a muscle problem in a fresh injury blow for Manchester United.
The Uruguay striker missed the Red Devils’ 2-0 home loss to Manchester City on Saturday with the issue.
And he is expected to be sidelined for a while as he tries to recover.
Cavani, 34, suffered similar problems in his heel at the start of the campaign after getting injured in a pre-season friendly.
He has now sought help after aggravating the pain in United’s 3-0 win at Tottenham on October 30 – the game in which he grabbed his first goal of the season – but still came off the bench against Atalanta last week.
Cavani will miss Uruguay’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia but flew home to support his wife Jocelyn at a book launch.
The striker told local media: “At a given moment when you see you are not making progress, you have to take a decision in order to get better.
“That is the situation I am in. Before the start of the season, I had pain in a posterior tendon, which kept me out for a couple of weeks.

“I got back into the United team bit by bit, and returned to the national side, but still always had a bit of pain.
“This is the sorts of thing you face as a professional footballer, but I hoped it would disappear.
“I was getting better, but after our game against Tottenham, the situation began to deteriorate.
“Muscular injuries are pretty difficult to deal with, and I decided to have some treatment done to solve the problem.
“All it was doing was harming my team – whether Manchester United or Uruguay.
“I want to recover as quickly as possible, so I can be fully fit and regain my place in the national side.
“The treatment requires me to rest for three or four days after the session.
“Then I can resume normal activities, and restart the treatment a few days later.”
TRAFFORD TROUBLE
Cavani’s revelation is the latest setback for beleaguered United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has come under renewed pressure following his side’s capitulation in the Manchester derby.
Raphael Varane is already out for a month with a pulled thigh.
Luke Shaw did not link up with England for the upcoming international after suffering a concussion during the Manchester derby.
And Solskjaer’s injuries mounted further when Paul Pogba limped out of France training on Monday clutching his thigh after taking a shot.
He has already been released from international duties to return to Carrington for further assessments.
RMC Sport report that he faces eight to ten weeks on the sidelines.
