Lucien Favre latest contender interviewed to be new Man Utd boss as Borussia Dortmund flop joins shortlist

LUCIEN FAVRE is the latest name to be thrown into the hat to potentially become Manchester United’s interim manager.

The United hierarchy have allegedly reached out to the 64-year-old to discuss his interest in the post vacated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to The Telegraph.

Favre’s one of many high-profile names to be linked with the United job recently.

The Swiss native’s a wanted man in the Premier League and has previously been in talks with both Newcastle and Crystal Palace but neither switch materialised.

However, United fans may be sceptical of Favre taking charge following his dismissal from Borussia Dortmund last year.

Favre took the reins at the Bundesliga side in 2018 only to be given the boot in 2020 when they were thrashed 5-1 by Stuttgart.

But Jadon Sancho, who played under Favre before making his £73million transfer to United this summer, could put in a good word for his ex-boss.

United have also contacted ex-Lyon manager Rudi Garcia to see if he is interested in becoming interim manager until the end of the season.

Solskjaer’s understudy Michael Carrick currently has the job but the club would like someone with more experience to take to helm.

And Garcia, who took Lyon to the Champions League semi-final last season, ticks the boxes.

His potential instalment at Old Trafford is most likely to be short-term, until Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino becomes available.

United had the former Tottenham head coach lined up to replace Solskjaer but PSG have reportedly blocked any approach the club plan to make until at least the summer.

Ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane was also high on United’s wishlist but the Frenchman is currently said to be enjoying his break from the game.
