LIVERPOOL fan hero Divock Origi is said to be at the centre of a transfer tussle between Serie A sides AC Milan and Atalanta.
Both the Italian giants are reportedly keeping tabs on the Reds striker and could swoop on him in January, according to Tuttomercato.
TM claim that Milan see the 27-year-old hitman as the ideal replacement for the ageing Zlatan Ibrahimovic who’s now in his 40’s.
While Atalanta reckon the Belgian can fill the boots of want-away striker Luis Muriel who allegedly wants to leave Bergamo in a bid to secure first-team football elsewhere.
Which is the same reason why Origi may be lured into a move to Italy.
Despite becoming a cult hero among the Reds faithful since joining the Merseyside giants in 2014, Origi’s failed to nail down a regular first-team spot.
He’s had two stints on loan during his time at Anfield, including a brief loan return to Lille and also with Wolfsburg.
But when Origi has been at the club, most of his time’s been spent watching Reds attacking trio Sadio Mane, Roberto Firminho and Mo Salah work their magic on the pitch from the bench.

Although he’s chipped in with a series of important goals throughout his Liverpool career.
Without Origi’s vital strikes against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final and again in the final against Tottenham in 2019, it’s unlikely that Liverpool would’ve won the competition.
And he’s proved his worth this season also with a late strike against Wolves a few weeks ago which gave Liverpool a last-gasp victory.
Just three days later, Origi popped up once again to score the winning goal against AC Milan in the Champions League group stages, ensuring the Reds maintained a 100% winning record going into the knockout rounds.
His emphatic contributions have seen him earn a permanent spot in the hearts of Reds fans, and the club’s boss Jurgen Klopp is well aware of his value also – labelling Origi as the ‘best finisher he’s ever seen.’
Speaking after Origi’s heroics against Wolves, Klopp beamed, reported by the Mail: “He’s one of the best finishers I’ve ever seen in my life. In this great team, with our [front] three, he doesn’t play all the time but he is a very positive boy, loves the club, wants to contribute and he did in an incredible way.”
The love shown by Klopp and Liverpool fans could be the reason Origi decides to stay and fight for his place at Anfield and turn down the Serie A clubs advances.
And he may get the chance to shine in the New Year as the Reds brace themselves to lose African pair Salah and Mane in January to the African Cup of Nations.
The AFCON takes place between January 6 to February 9 and both stars are set to be called up by their respective countries for the competition – leaving Liverpool with an attacking headache.
But as Origi’s shown time and time again, he’s more than capable of providing the goals Liverpool need in Salah and Mane’s absence.
