AXED England star Trent Alexander-Arnold thumped Liverpool’s stunning injury-time winner as Three Lions boss boss Gareth Southgate looked on.
Mo Ssalah’s header had earlier cancelled out Ollie Watkins’ Villa opener as lively Liverpool moved fourth.
Villa struggled to keep hold of possession in the continued absence of England playmaker Jack Grealish.
And although Liverpool were the slicker side they struggled to math their frontline electricity of the past two seasons.
They paid for that when Watkins, who destroyed them with a hat-trick in October, maintained his brilliant breakthrough campaign.
The Villans stole the ball on midway before John McGinn fed Watkins for a firm shot that went straight through Alisson’s dive.
Liverpool finally struck back 12 minutes after the break.
Diego Jota teed up Andy Robertson’s for a fierce shot well parried by Emiliano Martinez, only for Mo Salah to nod home the rebound.
Liverpool continued to flow reasonably well, but still without their menace up front.
So it needed something special from Alexander-Arnold to nick victory.
