Kevin De Bruyne ‘close to signing new five-year Man City contract worth more than £300,000-a-week’

KEVIN DE BRUYNE is close to signing a new, five-year contract at Manchester City worth over £300,000 a week, according to reports.

The Belgian star, 29, has two-and-a-half years still to run on his current deal at the Etihad.

But De Bruyne is said to be close to signing a two-year extension taking him through until the end of the 2024-25 season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

It could well mean the playmaker extraordinaire brings down the curtain on his career as a City player.

De Bruyne will be 34 years old when the new deal expires.

It’s believed the midfield maestro will rake in more than his current £320,000-a-week.

On the potential new deal, Romano tweeted: “Negotiations between Manchester City and Kevin de Bruyne [himself, no agent involved] on a new contract are going on in the right direction.

“The feeling around the club is that the agreement is ‘very close’.”

De Bruyne was tipped to quit Man City last season with the club hit with a two-year ban from European football over alleged Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches.

However, the ban was overturned with De Bruyne – along with the likes of Raheem Sterling and even boss Pep Guardiola – keen to commit to the club after the news.

Arsenal ace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has signed a new deal at the club

De Bruyne for one did not want to waste the remainder of his prime years without Champions League football.

But the Belgian is settled in the North West with his wife, Michele Lacroix, and three kids – sons Mason Milian, 4, and Rome, 2, as well as daughter Suri, born in September.

And with European football back on the menu, it seems De Bruyne is happy to close out his career at City.

De Bruyne will now look to add an elusive Champions League trophy to his haul, which already includes two Premier League crowns.

The midfielder has scored two goals, adding seven assists, in 14 Premier League games this season, with City struggling by their high standards down in eighth, albeit with two games in hand on the leading pack.
