PREMIER LEAGUE clubs certainly tightened the purse-strings in the January transfer window due to the coronavirus pandemic.
It meant certain clubs were forced to be shrewd with their cash as they bolstered their side for the final few months of the campaign.
Liverpool left it late to add two names while the likes of West Brom pulled off a coup or two in their fight for survival.
Here is the best transfer XI of the January window.
Andy Lonergan – West Brom (Free)
The veteran keeper joined the Baggies until the end of the season to provide competition for Sam Johnstone in goal.
Lonergan, 37, has made more than 400 club appearances in his career and boasts a wealth of experience ahead of their relegation battle.
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – West Brom (Loan)
Sam Allardyce will eye the arrival of the Arsenal younger as a real coup.
The 23-year-old can play in midfield, at right-back or on the opposite side of the defence.
Maitland-Niles is expected to play a huge role in their fight for survival.

Ozan Kabak – Liverpool (Loan)
Jurgen Klopp moved late to bolster his defence with the arrival of the Turkish centre-back from Schalke.
Kabak, 20, had played 14 times for the German side this season and was regarded as one of the most promising centre-back talents in the league.
Liverpool paid a £1million loan fee and can make it a permanent deal for £18m at the end of the season.
Ben Davies – Liverpool (£2m)
Probably the biggest surprise of the window was the Reds’ signing of Preston’s Davies.
With Joel Matip joining Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk on the treatment table, Klopp moved quickly to land the 27-year-old.
In 2016 he was on loan with Newport before a spell with Fleetwood. Now he’s at the champions.

Takumo Minamino – Southampton (Loan)
Ralph Hasenhuttl landed Liverpool’s outcast to bolster his attacking options.
Minamino joined Anfield a year ago for £7.25m but had made just four Premier League starts.
Morgan Sanson – Aston Villa (£14m)
With little money being spent during the window, the eye-catching arrival of Sanson was one of the deals of the New Year.
Sanson, 26, made 122 appearances for Marseille and will bolster Dean Smith’s midfield.
Martin Odegaard – Arsenal (Loan)
With Mesut Ozil leaving, Mikel Arteta swooped for Real Madrid’s attacking midfielder to fill the void.
He arrives with bags of potential but has failed to live up to his wonderkid reputation since joining Real Madrid in January 2015.

Jesse Lingard – West Ham (Loan)
David Moyes worked with the midfielder during his time as Manchester United boss and will be hoping to get the England international back to his best.
Lingard, 28, failed to make a league appearance this season but will eye this loan move as the perfect opportunity to find some much-needed form – particularly with Euro 2020 coming into view.
Amad Diallo – Man Utd (£19m)
The former Atalanta winger wasted no time impressing coaches by scoring twice on his Under-23 debut in a 6-3 win over Liverpool.
Diallo, 18, arrives with sky-high potential but fans may have to be patient before seeing him in the first team.

Willian Jose – Wolves (Loan)
Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping the arrival of the Real Sociedad striker will improve his goal-shy side.
With Raul Jimenez out injured, Wolves have hit the net just 21 times this season in 21 games.
Jose, 29, scored three times in 13 league appearances in Spain.
Josh King – Everton (£5m)
The Toffees pipped Fulham to the signing of the rapid forward on deadline day.
Bournemouth cashed in on their forward with his contract expiring in the summer.
King is likely to play back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin afte Cenk Tosun was allowed to rejoin Besiktas.
