IBRAHIMA KONATE went back to the future as he celebrated his dream move to Liverpool with childhood friends, red flares and wild scenes.

Dozens of pals danced and chanted as the Parisian held up a Reds’ shirt in the area where he grew up to hail his £36million switch from RB Leipzig.

Liverpool triggered the 22-year-old’s release clause after struggling to overcome long-term injuries to defenders Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip last term.

And the former France Under-21 star has already voiced his excitement at swapping the Bundesliga runners-up for Anfield.

He told the Reds’ website: “I’m really happy to be joining such a massive club like Liverpool.

“It’s a really exciting moment for me and my family and I am really looking forward to meeting my new team-mates, the staff and getting started on this new chapter.

“I know I will be joining one of the best teams in the world and that gives me a great feeling.

“I have worked very hard for many years to get to this point.

“But I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at RB Leipzig.”

Now Liverpool will be hoping they have as much to rejoice about his arrival as his friends did.

Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp pounced for Konate as defending Premier League champs Liverpool spluttered to a third-place finish.

He missed two months of 2020-21 with an ankle injury but still made 21 appearances for Leipzig.
