MANCHESTER UNITED are preparing to take on Villarreal as their rollercoaster European campaign draws to a close.
The Red Devils started off the 2020-21 season in the Champions League before crashing out in the group stage.
In a tough group alongside Paris Saint-Germain, RB Leipzig and Istanbul Basaksehir, United looked well-set to progress at one stage.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad lost three of their final four games to finish third and be ‘relegated’ to the Europa League last-32 stage.
However, that may have been a blessing for United.
After all, the club have enjoyed frequent pay-days for their long run to the final.
But how much have United made purely from European football this season?
First and foremost, the Red Devils received a whopping £16.4million for qualifying for this season’s Champions League having finished third in the Premier League last term.
And despite crashing out in the group stage, United still earned a reported £10.7m for their six games.
Man Utd also pocketed an estimated £14.4m in TV revenue, although the full figures could be higher than that once the pool is divided amongst all the teams.

After dropping into Europe’s second tier, United picked up a £2.5m base fee for taking part.
They earned an additional £400,000 for beating Real Sociedad in the first knockout stage, before raking in £1m for battling past AC Milan in the last-16.
The quarter-final win over Granada saw them take home an extra £1.3m, while the Roma victory in the semis earned them £2m.
Up to this point, United have already picked up a staggering £48.7m.
But that number will shoot up regardless of the result against Villarreal on Wednesday night.
Should United lose, they will be awarded £3.9m, while a win would see that number go up to £7.4m.
That means Man Utd will earn either £52.6m or £56.1m – with more set to roll in depending on TV revenue distribution.
