How Chelsea could line-up against Burnley with Thomas Tuchel set to recall Mason Mount to starting XI after axe

MASON MOUNT is set to be recalled by new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel against Burnley on Sunday.

The English playmaker, 22, was brutally axed from the starting XI for the Wolves clash on Wednesday.

Ironically, he was brought on with 83 minutes played and showed plenty of attacking intent then almost assisted a last-gasp winner for Kai Havertz in the 0-0 draw.

And that may be enough to convince Tuchel that Mount is more than just Frank Lampard’s golden boy – but actually one of the best and most in-form players at his disposal.

Where Mount would play, though, is uncertain.

He could replace either Hakim Ziyech or Kai Havertz as the playmakers supporting a central striker or alternatively a slightly deeper role in midfield.

Tuchel opted for a 3-4-2-1 formation on Wednesday and may well do so again for the Clarets’ visit to Stamford Bridge for the 12pm kick-off.

Edouard Mendy is virtually guaranteed to keep his place in goal.

Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger were rarely threatened as the back three kept a clean sheet against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side so they could be kept in.

However, with a busy schedule, Silva may be rested with Kurt Zouma brought in instead.

Ben Chilwell is expected to continue at left wing-back – unless Tuchel goes really rogue and brings in Emerson or Marcos Alonso – with Reece James likely to be restored to the starting XI on the right.

Callum Hudson-Odoi played in an unfamiliar right wing-back role against Wolves and had a good game, though, so could continue there or be pushed further forward.

In midfield, pass maestro Jorginho is likely to keep his place with Tuchel’s love of a metronome in the middle.

Mateo Kovacic may partner him if Tuchel goes with two again.

Timo Werner was an unused sub on Wednesday but could be handed a start after the Blues fired a blank.

He may get the nod through the centre or out on the left with Tammy Abraham or Olivier Giroud as the No9.

Despite not breaching Wolves’ resolve, Tuchel may even hand another chance to Ziyech, Giroud and Havertz in attack.
