Real Madrid kept the pressure on LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid with a 4-1 win over Granada at Los Carmenes in a match that saw academy graduates Miguel Gutierrez and Marvin Park shine bright at full-back.
Real opened the scoring after 17 minutes when 19-year-old Miguel delivered a wonderful ball down the left flank and found Luka Modric who nutmegged Rui Silva from a tight angle.
Los Blancos doubled their lead in the first minute of stoppage time when their other young full-back Marvin got a crucial touch down the right flank, which allowed Rodrygo to run down and beat Silva from a tight angle.
Granada got back in it on 71 minutes when Jorge Molina picked up a loose save from Thibaut Courtois and hit the net.
But Alvaro Odriozola ended the hosts’ hopes of a comeback in the 75th minute when he picked up a wonderful pass by Eden Hazard from the left flank and sent the ball to Silva’s top right corner.
Karim Benzema sealed Real’s win a minute later when Granada’s keeper made a terrible run off his area and the French star dispossessed him before scoring from long range.
That’s all from us here in Granada, have a lovely night!
COURTOIS REACTS
Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois insists Los Blancos need to maintain pressure on LaLiga leaders Atletico Madrid.
Courtois said: “We have to keep pressuring Atleti, we have to show them that we are close and they cannot make a mistake.
“Osasuna and Valladolid are going to give their lives to win. Atleti feels strong, the only thing we can do is win ourselves. Let’s start with Athletic [Bilbao], which is a strong game and then we’ll see.
“The second half was not so good, we had a warning with Luis Suarez before 1-2, we missed a lot of passes but we found 1-3 well, I had to make three stops later with 1-4, that can’t be. We cannot relax.
“There are counter-attacks and the defenders have to cover, there is little recovery time and you have to go to the death”
SORO REACTS
Granada ace Alberto Soro stated he is proud of his team despite the outcome of the match and insisted the result doesn’t reflect the hosts’ performance.
Soro said: “What was seen in the field has not been reflected in the result.
“We have had occasions, but we have not materialised them. We believed that we could win. We lacked success in the final meters, but proud of the team.
“We have always been in the party, they are our values. Grant opportunities with this team are paid. They are one of the best in the world and they submit to you, we had to endure the result more, but it could not be.
“We have had an extraordinary season. We have to compete every game, it has been a tough season with three competitions. I am proud of the team”
