GARY NEVILLE has slammed Manchester United’s performance in the Europa League final against Villarreal – and suggested Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now under ‘pressure’.
The Red Devils lost 11-10 on penalties in Gdansk as the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time.
United had slipped a goal down only for Edinson Cavani’s second-half strike to rescue his team yet again.
Neville says Solskjaer is now under pressure this summer with their form patchy and United without a trophy since the 2016-17 Europa League triumph under Mourinho.
The former Red Devils defender tweeted: “You can’t switch performance on and off like a tap.
“Haven’t played well for weeks and last night a continuation of the form recently.
“Pressure will be applied to Ole and the team. Rightly so.
“Need to get it right this summer and a good start to next season needed badly!”

Solskjaer himself admitted his side were off the pace against Villarreal.
After the game, the Norwegian confessed: “We didn’t turn up.
“We didn’t play as well as we can do. That’s football for you.
“It’s sometimes decided on one kick and that’s the difference between winning and losing.
“We’ve got to, not savour the feeling, but taste it and make sure you don’t get it again.”

United improved their Premier League standing in 2020-21, finishing second.
But they were still 12 points adrift of rivals Manchester City with just 74 points from their 38 games.
United also crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the semi-final stage to their neighbours while losing in the FA quarter-finals to eventual winners Leicester.
Meanwhile, a psychological expert has blamed Bruno Fernandes for United’s shootout loss – for winning the coin toss and choosing to go second.
