But former Manchester City and Hull full-back Elabdellaoui has promised to bounce back stronger than ever after thanking fans for their prayers.
He wrote on Instagram: “As you may know I was in an accident on New Year’s Eve.
“I just wanted to have a pleasant time with my children and wife when the accident occurred.
“I know you may be worried for me, but sometimes God gives us tests.
“I believe that I will pass this test thanks to your prayers.
“I am getting better. I am getting excellent and professional care from my medical team and we are making progress every day.
“We are still facing some challenges but I will come back stronger. This I promise.
“Please continue to keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
“I would like to thank everyone who prayed, sent their beautiful energies and messages and made me feel that they were with me – It means the world to me.”
Elabdellaoui, who never made a senior appearance for City, has been a key figure for club and country this season.
The Norway international has played 20 times in all competitions, including last October’s Nations League wins over Romania and Northern Ireland.
Elabdellaoui joined Galatasaray last summer after ending his six-year stint at Olympiacos.
He missed a number of games earlier in the campaign after testing positive for coronavirus.
