ENGLAND fans were shocked when Harry Kane wasn’t awarded a penalty in their Euro 2020 semi-final against Denmark.
Kane appeared to be fouled in the box but the referee decided to penalise the captain instead, much to the disappointment of the Wembley crowd.
But it turned out not to matter as England were later awarded a controversial penalty when Raheem Sterling was brought down in extra-time.
Harry Kane stepped up and although he saw an awful effort saved by Kasper Schmeichel, the rebound fell kindly to him to score.
Gareth Southgate’s men held on to reach a major international final for the first time in 55 YEARS.
Earlier, with 74 minutes on the clock, Kane went down in the box after a tussle with Denmark international Christian Norgaard.
The Tottenham striker was clearly brought to the ground by Norgaard – but Dutch referee Danny Makkelie decided not to give a pen.
In the build-up to the incident, Kane fouled RB Leipzig forward Yussuf Poulsen in an attempt to win the ball.
But former Premier League referee Peter Walton thinks Denmark were fortunate to get the referee’s decision.
He told ITV Sport: “I think he’s unlucky there because the defender has come across him – and caught him late – so it could have gone either way.

“But obviously you can see it from these replays, here, where the foot goes through.
“It could have gone either way to be honest with you.”
Fans on social media were divided on whether Kane should have been awarded a penalty.
One tweeted: “You can clearly see that it is a penalty.”
While another wrote: “There was a foul beforehand so it was not a penalty.
“Referee should have called it quicker, though, but he probably takes his directive from the earpiece.”
Some were also taking aim at VAR, with one tweeting: “This is a beautiful example why VAR should go.”
Although Kane was denied a Penalty by VAR, England did get one in extra-time which the skipper, at the second attempt, dispatched.
