Eight Man Utd stars whose sons are trying to follow in their famous footsteps like Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham

MANY youngsters have followed in their father’s footsteps by becoming a professional footballer – including Romeo Beckham.

Becks’ son made his debut for Fort Lauderdale on Sunday evening – and he’s not the only Manchester United offspring to try to become a pro.

Several Red Devils icons have enrolled their kids in academies and even helped them get their first senior contract.

Some, such as Peter Schmeichel’s son and Leicester skipper Kasper, have gone on to enjoy significant success – but that can’t be said for everyone.

Here, SunSport takes a look at eight sons of Man Utd favourites currently trying to forge a career in football.

David Beckham’s son, 19, revealed plans to become a footballer in August 2020 during an Instagram Q&A with his followers.

Romeo, a winger like his dad, was quiet on debut against South Georgia Tormenta but will get plenty of opportunities as Becks OWNS the club.

But the ex-England skipper has told manager Phil Neville to be harsh on his kid, who must earn a career in football.

And Phil Neville has his own kid in the Inter Miami set up with Harvey, 19, featuring alongside Romeo on Sunday evening.

Harvey, a central midfielder, has shown huge amounts of potential during his career after spells in academies at Man Utd, Man City and Valencia.

The talent, who can also play at right-back, joined Fort Lauderdale in May and has since made 16 senior appearances under his dad.

Cristiano Ronaldo Jr

Could you imagine another CR7? Ronaldo’s son Cristiano Jr, 11, is currently in Man Utd’s academy after a three-year spell at Juventus.

And the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is encouraging his eldest son to follow in his footsteps as he believes he has the potential.

Ronaldo told DAZN: “I would love for him to be a footballer, because he feels passion for this sport. He is a competitor and he hates losing.”

Kai Rooney

Alongside Cristiano Jr in Man Utd’s academy is Wayne Rooney’s eldest son Kai, 11, who is said to be a promising footballer.

Kai scored a hat-trick and set up another three goals in the U11’s 6-3 win against Stoke City in May and has been on away trips with the club.

The youngster signed for United’s academy last December, with Rooney telling him on Instagram: “Keep up the hard work, son.”

Aaron Scholes

Paul Scholes’ eldest son Aaron, 22, never quite managed to reach his dad’s heights but still played football to a decent level.

The personal trainer played in attacking midfield for Stalybridge Celtic, Royton Town and Chadderton – with the latter club playing in the ninth tier.

Aaron scored a screamer for Chadderton in December but it’s unclear whether he’s still playing for the Greater Manchester club.

Charlie Savage

Perhaps the brightest talent on this list is Robbie Savage’s son Charlie, 18, who signed his first pro contract with Man Utd in April.

Charlie, a central midfielder like his dad, is currently starring for the U23s and will be hoping to make his senior debut soon.

Savage Sr was also on the books at Man Utd but never played a game before being released and forging a career elsewhere in the Premier League.

Filip Matic

Nemanja Matic’s son Filip, 10, is another talent that has trained with Man Utd’s academy, although it’s unclear whether he’s still part of the set up.

The Serbian midfielder has previously shared videos of the youngster doing tricks in the garden and he’s got plenty of flare.

Filip remains a huge football fan and was given an amazing Old Trafford stadium cake by his dad for his ninth birthday last year.

Robin van Persie’s son Shaqueel, 14, is currently part of Feyenoord’s academy and has shown a lot of promise playing in the U16s.

The youngster scored an absolute screamer for the U15s in an 8-3 win against Ajax in October and is being fast-tracked through the ranks.

But he’ll have to impress his old man as the former Man Utd striker was appointed co-head coach of the U16s in May.
