Edinson Cavani was ‘put out’ when Jadon Sancho wanted his Man Utd No 7 shirt… then gave it to Cristiano Ronaldo

EDINSON CAVANI has reportedly ‘put out’ by Jadon Sancho asking for his No7 shirt at Manchester United.

But the veteran striker had no issues giving it up for Cristiano Ronaldo when the club legend returned on deadline day.

The Athletic claims Cavani was far from pleased when a request filtered through from Sancho’s camp during the winger’s negotiations with United over the summer.

The England ace had apparently been told the year before he would get the No7 jersey should a transfer go through.

But when Borussia Dortmund refused to sell for less than £100million, United waited until this year to get a deal over the line.

However, Cavani did not leave on a free as expected, instead being convinced by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to pen a one-year contract extension.

And when the issue of the No7 jersey came to light, Cavani is said to have been ‘put out’.

The Uruguayan instead held on tightly to his squad number as Sancho was eventually given the No25 upon completion of his ££73m switch.

However, Cavani was apparently happy to give his No7 shirt to Ronaldo when informed of the United icon’s imminent return from Juventus.

Indeed, boss Solskjaer praised Cavani’s maturity and sportsmanship in helping the Ronaldo deal go through.

He said after deadline day: “Edinson has been remarkable. Cristiano spoke with Edinson and they spoke to each other.

“And to pass on his shirt just shows the respect he’s got for Cristiano, but also Cristiano speaking to Edinson shows the respect the other way.”

But it may be some time before the pair get to link up again, with Cavani sidelined as he undergoes treatment for an injured muscle.
