  • GOODBYE FROM PRIDE PARK

Man United got their pre-season off to a strong start with a decent performance across the board away from home against an industrious Derby side.

With a host of first-team players unavailable, Solskjaer turned to his young guns and experienced squad players to come up with the goods and they didn’t let him down, with Jesse Lingard in particular performing well.

Wayne Rooney got his second season at the helm at Derby off to a losing start but has plenty of positive to take from the game, with his depleted squad getting much needed minutes in the tank against strong opposition.

Next up Derby take on Salford City at home on Saturday, whilst Man United face QPR away on the same day as both managers look to build some rhythm and confidence ahead of the start of their domestic campaigns.

With United’s senior players gradually returning following their involvement in international competition over the summer, United fans can likely expect to see the youngsters in action again for the next few games.

Less than a month to go until they take on old foes Leeds United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the season but there’s still plenty time for these players to stake their claims to be involved.

That’s all from us, bye for now.

  • START ME UP

United fans got a glimpse of their new kit in action for the first time this afternoon and may take it as a good omen for the season that they got off to a winning start.

  • CAPTAIN FANTASTIC

Ex-Red Tom Lawrence put in a solid shift in midfield for Derby this afternoon, wearing the captain’s armband for the first time. Lawrence will undoubtedly play a key role for Derby in the Championship this season.

  • BACK IN RED

Tom Heaton played his first 45 minutes in a United today shirt since he left the club back in 2010 and shared his thoughts on the performance and the upcoming season with MUTV.

  • FLYING START

United fans got their first glimpse of Facundo Pellistri in red today and he took his goal very well, looking calm and composed on the ball and direct in his attacking play.

  • FT: DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

The Red Devils got off to a slow start in their first game of pre-season, but managed to take the lead through the persistence and directness of Tahith Chong, who scored the opener after 18 minutes.

Chong may have been lucky not to have his goal disallowed as it looked to strike his arm after it rebounded off Kelle Roos, but he was given the benefit of the doubt and the goal stood.

Derby grew into the game and came close through the energy and pace of Nathan Byrne and the vision of ex-Red Tom Lawrence, forcing one or two saves from Tom Heaton on his return to the United fold.

Solskjaer made wholesale changes at half-time with a new-look United front line including Shola Shoretire, Facundo Pellistri and Jesse Lingard making an immediate impact and causing Derby all kinds of problems.

Shoretire and Pellistri combined superbly to open up the Derby defence after 59 minutes as Shoretire put Pellistri through on goal, who calmly rounded the keeper and slotted home to make it 2-0.

Derby didn’t roll over, however, and Rooney made a series of changes, including the introduction of veteran striker Colin Kazim-Richards, whose 25 yard strike into the bottom corner got Derby back in it after 70 minutes.

Jesse Lingard looked to extend United’s lead and was instrumental in all of their attacking play, hitting the bar with a cracking strike from 25 yards.

Derby tried to get back in it, with Kazim-Richards in particular probing the United defence, but ultimately the game seemed to fizzle out somewhat and neither side looked particularly dangerous right at the death.

It was an exciting game with a good intensity for a pre-season match and both managers will be pleased to get some minutes under the belts of their players, with plenty of positives to take from both sides.

  • PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

That’s it, it’s full-time here at Pride Park and it’s been an interesting and entertaining 90 minutes.

    FT: DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    90. Derby manage to keep the ball in the United half for the first time in a while but are unable to create anything meaningful, passing it back into their own half.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    89. The small section of United fans in Pride Park have made themselves heard throughout the game and are the louder of the two sets of supporters as the game comes to a close.

Lingard gets on the ball again and runs towards goal, but is well-tackled in front of goal and it goes out for a goalkick, to Lingard’s frustration.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    87. United are passing it around at the back and the sting has been taken out of the game in the last few minutes.

The urgency and intensity has slowed massively and United are treating the last couple of minutes as an exercise in ball retention.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    85. Hannibal is dispossesed in midfield after a poor touch and commits a foul in his attempt to win it back.

Derby have a free-kick in the United half but are unable to capitalise and Lee Grant collects the ball comfortably.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    84. Jesse Lingard is absolutely everywhere and is demanding the ball from his teammates, who happily oblige.

Derby are defending deep now and United are passing the ball around well, patient in their build up.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    82. SUBSTITUTION

    Derby Sub:

Osazee Aghatise comes on for Max Bird with just under ten minutes on the clock.

Time running out for Derby to find an equaliser and United look to extend their lead.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    81. Shoretire looks to have been fouled on the edge of the Derby box after some good United attacking play but the ref doesn’t give it and Derby break.

Derby steamroll forward with Kazim-Richards who puts a good ball in and Fish is able to clear it for a corner.

It’s a poor delivery and is well cleared at the near post.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    80. CHANCE! He’s only been on the pitch for a minute but Jesse Lingard plays in Hannibal Mejbri who sets himself to strike from twelve yards out but it’s nicked off him at the last minute.

Good defending from Derby and Hannibal will be disappointed not to have been able to get a shot off. Good from Lingard again, who has been instrumental in midfield.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    78. SUBSTITUTION

Joe Hugill is withdrawn and Hannibal Mejbri comes on to replace him for the final ten minutes.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    77. Now it’s Kazim-Richards who loses the ball and Pellistri drives at the Derby defence, but is ultimately shepherded out and it’s a Derby goalkick.

The Uruguayan winger has been a real live wire and has been causing all kinds of headaches for Derby down the left hand side.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    76. Sibley looks to cause some problems for United down the right wing but the Derby youngster loses out to Ethan Galbraith, who seeks to atone for his misplaced pass which gifted Kazim-Richards the ball for his goal.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    74. CHANCE! Lingard cuts in from the left and curls one from 25 yards out and it looks like it’s going in the top corner but cannons off the bar. What an effort. Keeper had absolutely no chance.

Lingard looks full of confidence and is doing himself no harm at all in staking a claim for a starting spot against Leeds in a month’s time.

  • DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    71. After ten minutes of United domination, Derby have all of a sudden started to look quite dangerous.

Man Utd were passing it around at the back and it was Galbraith who gave the ball away with a sloppy pass which led to the Kazim-Richards goal.

Derby manage to win the ball back again in the United half and Kazim-Richards has another effort on goal, but it’s well wide this time.

  • GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

    DERBY 1-2 MAN UTD

    69. A superb effort by Colin Kazim-Richards, who capitalises on a sloppy pass and fires into the bottom right hand corner from 25 yards. Grant had no chance. An excellent strike.

Two-one to United and Derby are back in it!

  • DERBY 0-2 MAN UTD

    66. Lingard and Pellistri look very sharp and Lingard in particular looks like he has a point to prove.

Galbraith pushes forward on the right for United who is then fouled by Sibley.

The ref thinks about pulling out the yellow card but decides better of it and it’s a free-kick to United.

  • DERBY 0-2 MAN UTD

    65. Shoretire is causing problems down the left hand side and wins a free-kick for United.

Telles and Pereira stand over it and it’s Pereira who plays it to Lingard, who plays it back. Pereira whips one into the back post where it’s met by Will Fish, who heads wide.

  • DERBY 0-2 MAN UTD

    63. United look to catch out Derby’s new introductions but manage to win only a corner, which is taken by Telles and well cleared by Derby.

United are seeing a lot of the ball now with Lingard and Pellistri in particular looking like they’re enjoying themselves.
