Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze could return NEXT WEEK after miracle recovery from Achilles injury

CRYSTAL PALACE hope to have star Eberechi Eze back soon — and he could even play next week.

Eze, 23, has made huge progress since an Achilles injury amid fears he could be out until 2022.

But he is now doing ball work and may play against Newcastle next Saturday.

Back in May Eze’s former Crystal Palace teammate Andros Townsend recalled the moment the injury happened in a light training session.

Speaking ahead of Euro 2020, the now Everton man told talkSPORT: “Eze has gone to turn and you heard a big pop.

“He fell to the floor. He thought somebody kicked him, we all thought somebody kicked him because it sounded like that, as he’s turned around and realised nobody was around him, the shock started to set in as you know what it is.”

And Townsend went on to say that the injury occurred on the day Eze discovered he was supposed to be in Gareth Southgate’s provisional England squad for Euro 2020.

The 30-year-old heartbreakingly revealed: “As soon as he got in the dressing room and turned on his phone there was a message from England to say he was in the provisional squad.

“That compounded his misery and a lot of us were in tears. It was a sad day.”

Palace may also have Nathan Ferguson, 21, back this month. The former West Brom right-back has been plagued by knee trouble.

The Eagles have had an indifferent start to the season with just one win from their opening seven Premier League games.

New boss Patrick Vieira has overseen a host of arrivals and departures as the club look to move on from Roy Hodgson’s time as manager.
