THOMAS TUCHEL says he asked Ben Chilwell to ‘trust him’ after dropping the £50million Chelsea star for Marcos Alonso.
England left-back Chilwell, 24, was a regular starter under old boss Frank Lampard following his summer switch from Leicester.

However, Alonso, 30 – who last played under Lampard in September – has become Tuchel’s No1 on the flank after some impressive performances in the German’s first few Chelsea games.
Alonso is likely to continue ahead of Chilwell for Monday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle.
And there are fears that a lack of minutes could damage Chilwell’s Euro chances with England.
Tuchel admits the defender is currently behind Alonso in the Chelsea pecking order.
But he has called on Chilwell to ‘trust’ the process and insists there will be opportunities for the ace to shine.
Tuchel said: “I had a talk with him before spurs and told him ‘you have to trust me now, I see your potential, your talent’.
“I see with Chilly a very nice guy, a very reflective guy, intelligent guy. I feel in the first days it is possible he thinks a lot about the situation.
“Hopefully not too much because he can have trust in himself first of all, and he can trust in us as a staff that we will keep on pushing him.

“We will find possibilities and look for them to reward him. Sometimes it takes a little time and there are hard decisions in the moment.
“At clubs like Chelsea, with a squad of 26 players and hopefully it stays that we do not have a lot of injuries, we have to deal with these kinds of situations.
“Then it is my job not to lose these players and to help them that they do not lose trust. If he keeps on going he is a fantastic guy and has a lot of potential.
“We wanted everyone to have a start where we are fair to everybody and we don’t judge by the amount of money the club has spent, but to give everyone the feeling this is a fresh start.
“Marcos is the guy who took advantage of this situation, but this is not the end for Chilly’s development – for sure not.”
