FT: CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
It ends all square at Stamford Bridge after Che Adams’ tap-in at the start of the second half cancelled out Kai Havertz’s header at the end of the first. Both sides won their third round tie cup ties via a shootout, and one will have to do so again in order to reach the quarter-finals.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
THIS CUP TIE WILL BE SETTLED BY PENALTIES!
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
90+3. It’s all gone quiet over there…and by there, I mean the Kepa critic.
The Chelsea goalkeeper has just pulled off two excellent saves to deny Southampton a stoppage time win.
The second was a little flamboyant to keep out Salisu, but the first reaction to keep out Lyancu’s header was sensational.
He will be full of confidence going into the spotkicks now.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
90. Hudson-Odoi with a chance to win it. In fact, some Chelsea fans on the far side think he has. They’ll have to calm down though because he’s actually thumped his shot into the side-netting.
There will be four minutes added on.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
89. Shout out to the lone voice within earshot of the press box that has been serenading Kepa with cries of “dodgy keeper” for the entirety of the second half.
We’re a minute plus stoppage time away from penalties. I think we know now how those end.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
87. Smallbone goes for goal again, but his snapshot from 20 yards isn’t going. to test Kepa on this occasion.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
85. Chelsea win their tenth corner of the match.
They’ve already scored from one, can they find another goal here?
Short answer: no.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
83. Southampton’s fifth and final substitute brings Tino Livramento back to Stamford Bridge.
The Saints defender was Chelsea’s Academy Player of the Year last season, but now he’s excelling on the south coast.
Can he land a decisive late blown on his old club? Or are we heading for penalties?
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
80. Moussa Djenepo goes into the book for a tired foul in the middle of the pitch.
Hey, Moussa, at least we won’t have extra-time to worry about.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
78. Almost a fairytale introduction for Smallbone!
Poor defending from Sarr again leads to the ball sitting up for the Southampton substitute inside the area. He connects with a firm header which Kepa does well to push out.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
77. Two more substitutions for Southampton. Ibrahima Diallo and Stuart Armstrong head off, and here comes Oriol Romeu and – after a long spell out with injury – Will Smallbone.
CHELSEA 1-1 SOUTHAMPTON
75. Saul certainly fancies himself as the man to score the winner.
He goes for goal again, once more from distance, this time with a curler that’s pushed over by Forster.
