LEANDRO TROSSARD produced the one moment of sheer quality to clinch victory for Brighton.
Brentford and the Seagulls looked destined to be heading for a goalless stalemate in a game of missed chances.
But with just 30 seconds left of normal time, Alexis MacAllister exchanged passes with Jakub Moder before feeding Trossard on the edge of the box.
And the Belgian ace – with a crowd of defenders around him – managed to squeeze a brilliant shot inside David Raya’s right post.
It inflicted Brentford’s first Premier League defeat and sees the Seagulls sitting pretty with three wins from their first four games.
The Bees had edged it on chances but Brighton went closest when Danny Welbeck forced keeper David Raya into a brilliant first-half save.
Bryan Mbeumo, though, missed a glorious guilt-edged chance – and came close to netting a couple of times.
But they were punished ruthlessly at the death.

The Bees – having beaten Arsenal in their opening game – had drawn against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
While Brighton beat Burnley and Watford before losing to Everton.
Seagulls boss Graham Potter gave a debut to £15.4million new-signing Marc Cucurella after the Spanish defender moved on transfer deadline day from Getafe.
His opposite number Thomas Frank gave Shandon Baptiste his full Premier League debut.
Brighton striker Neal Maupay lined up against his former team for the first time since he swapped West London for the South coast two years ago.
Sergi Canos gave Cucurella a rough welcome to the Premier League by catching him with an elbow which earned the Bees ace a booking from ref Graham Scott.
Ivan Toney attempted to light up the stadium with an audacious 35-yard lob after spotting Seagulls keeper Robert Sanchez off his line but the ball just drifted over the bar.
But Brighton were denied a certain opener when Leandro Trossard played a lovely ball into Danny Welbeck – but the striker saw his effort brilliantly saved by David Raya low to his left.
Bryan Mbeumo was booked after pulling back Maupay.
The Bees forward then clipped a free-kick to the back post but Toney’s header landed on top of the netting.
But Mbeumo really should have done better when Toney cut a ball back to him for a clear shooting chance – but he blasted it wastefully over.
And then the Frenchman was presented another chance just outside the box and the result was the same … a shot over the bar.
Shane Duffy was making a great impression in the Seagulls midfield – spraying some lovely passes around. One almost unlocked the door when he found Welbeck with a ball over the top.
Pontus Jansson was down injured and in clear discomfort but after a couple of minutes he was back on his feet and waved back on to continue by Scott.
Adam Webster appeared to have injured his hamstring and had to be taken off after just 36 minutes to be replaced by Jakub Moder.
Mbuemo almost scored a stunner just before the interval. He was put through by a lovely pass from Toney before cutting inside Joel Veltman but his effort flashed just wide.
After the break, Seagull fans had hearts in their mouths as Lewis Dunk played a dangerous back pass to Sanchez. Toney was so close to dispossessing the Brighton keeper, who just managed to clear.
Veltman had his name taken after dragging Toney to the ground and then Duffy was also booked for hacking down Mbuemo just as he turned him and was set to sprint goalwards.
Welbeck – who had made his first start of the season – was taken off and replaced by Alexi MacAllister.
Janelt had a solid game for the Bees but he made way with 23 minutes left for Mathias Jensen.
Brentford have been known for their goalscoring prowess in recent seasons – but defensively they put in a great shift with Brighton finding it almost impossible to play through them.

Baptiste attempted an ambitious effort from the left edge of the Brighton box which flashed well wide and high.
Toney found Mbuemo after the Seagulls lost possession in their own third but the ball got tangled up in his feet with Duffy able to get a vital touch just as it looked like the Bees ace would pull the trigger.
Brighton almost went in front with 13 minutes left when Cucurella found Trossard in space on the edge of the box – and the Albion ace saw his shot deflected just wide.
