MARCOS ROJO raised a few eyebrows and left a young fan in tears after handing him his face mask as he arrived at his team hotel.
The former Manchester United defender seemingly threw off any Covid concerns as he handed his mask to the tiny Boca Juniors fan, who was left sobbing with joy.
Named locally as Jesus Bulacio, the boy clutched the Boca face covering as he cried uncontrollably behind barriers outside the hotel in the Argentinian city of Santiago del Estero.
Boca played local side Patronato on Wednesday night in the quarter-finals of the Copa Argentina, winning the game on penalties to reach the semis.
Boca fan Juani Herrerias joked on Twitter alongside a snap of the footage: “The moment Marcos Rojo puts an end to the pandemic?”
Thomas Perez was more blunt and wrote simply: “Marcos Rojo couldn’t be more stupid!”
Another fan tweeted jokingly: “Don’t you want to give him your toothbrush as well Marcos?”
A supporter of Boca Juniors’ rivals River, writing from an unofficial fan account, added: “Marcos Rojo passed on all his germs to that boy by gifting him his face mask, unless it’s a special one where your breath doesn’t get left on the fabric.

“There are players that just don’t get it and need to wake up and realise they are role models. Terrible spectacle.”
But another Boca fan defended Rojo: “Professional football players live with a swab stuck up their nose. Stop being so nasty.”
And it emerged overnight the family of the little boy had written a letter to Rojo, saying: “Many thanks for making his dream come true.
“The emotion on his face says it all, his tears from the bottom of his heart for his idol.”
Rojo made headlines in July after being filmed threatening rival players with a fire extinguisher after Boca were beaten in the Copa America by Atletico Mineiro.
Former United team-mate Ander Herrera joked about the ugly incident on his Instagram by editing a fire extinguisher into Rojo’s hand in a snap showing him with his arm round the defender.
The 31-year-old signed for Boca from the Red Devils in February 2021 after almost seven years in England, following a loan spell at Estudiantes de La Plata where he began his career.
