Barcelona see Covid cases double in just 24 hours as Ousmane Dembele, Umtiti and Gavi are stricken by virus

THE coronavirus has ripped through Barcelona’s squad in the past 24 hours, robbing the Catalans of several stars.

The club released a statement today revealing Ousmane Dembele, Samuel Umtiti and Gavi are now self-isolating after returning positive tests.

The Catalans added that the players are in good health, but that now means seven members of the playing squad have returned positive tests.

Dani Alves, Clement Lenglet, Jordi Alba and Alejandro Balde were recently forced into self-isolation after contracting the coronavirus.

Barcelona have serious concerns that number could rise further ahead of their next match in LaLiga.

Xavi’s side are due to play Real Mallorca on January 2.

Mallorca are also said to be suffering from a Covid outbreak – with four players and three staff members all testing positive during the winter break.

Boss Xavi already has a number of injuries to deal with, while Sergio Busquets is suspended for the encounter.
