Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger outlines reasons Harry Kane should STAY at Tottenham and snub transfer away

FORMER Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told Harry Kane he can fulfil his ambition of winning trophies at Tottenham as he urged him to stay.

The future of the Spurs striker is in question with the 27-year-old revealing he will decide whether to leave or not after the European Championships.

A number of pundits have declared that Kane must depart North London in search of silverware following Spurs’ Europa League exit.

Kane can still win his first trophy at Tottenham with Jose Mourinho’s side in the Carabao Cup final, though Manchester City are favourites to win the competition.

It has been claimed that Pep Guardiola is eyeing up a move for the ex-Leyton Orient loanee, while Manchester United and Real Madrid have also been linked.

But Wenger believes that Kane should remain at his beloved side, as he told beIN Sports: “Tottenham are in a position where they can be ambitious and we should maybe not judge only today’s situation.

“Tottenham was top of the league in December. There were a few times when they were top of the league when I was still at Arsenal.

“He is the only one who can assess the situation. A player like that is always solicited by other clubs and always has to assess his situation.

“He was until now a real top leader at Tottenham. He’s a top leader in the English national team. I respect highly his commitment and his quality.

“What I like today is he could play basically as a number 10 because the quality of his assists and the speed of his vision, and the execution of his speed on long balls is exceptional.”

Jermain Defoe is of the opinion his former team-mate should quit Spurs, a statement echoed by Roy Keane.

When asked by reporters whether he has to leave Tottenham to win trophies, Kane said: “I think that’s a hard question to answer right now.

“To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance.

“I’m focused on finishing strong with Spurs, winning these qualifiers with England and hopefully going on to have a great Euros.

“I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer and we’ll see where we go from there.”
