  • THAT’S ALL FROM ARGENTINA!

Argentina failed to punch their ticket to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar just yet following a 0-0 draw with rivals Brazil in the Superclasico at the Estadio San Juan.

Both teams came close to an opener with the Selecao missing two big opportunities in the first half.

First with Vinicius Junior on 18 minutes when he ran behind the Albiceleste’s backline to pick up Lucas Paqueta’s through ball but his shot missed Emiliano Martinez’s goal.

And just a minute later, Matheus Cunha almost scored a worldie as he saw Martinez far from his goalpost and tried a long-range effort from midfield that just missed the Aston Villa shot-stopper’s crossbar.

But it was Alisson who had to make the biggest save of the game four minutes before half-time when he stretched and blocked Rodrigo De Paul’s curling shot down his bottom left corner.

It was an eventful first half that also saw Nicolas Otamendi elbowing Raphinha on the jaw inside Argentina’s area and the Leeds star played with a bandage in his mouth until half-time.

The second half was less eventful but Brazil registered the biggest chance of the match on the hour-mark.

Raphinha delivered a free-kick from the left that got cleared from Argentina’s defence.

Fred picked the ball up on the edge of the box and flicked it over with a beautiful shot that rattled Martinez’s crossbar.

Brazil are already through to the 2022 World Cup but Argentina need one more point to join them in Qatar.
