Aguero ‘took 75 PER CENT pay cut to play for Barcelona despite receiving higher offer from Cristiano Ronaldo’s Juventus’

SERGIO AGUERO took a whopping 75 per cent pay cut to team up with Lionel Messi at Barcelona, according to reports.

The Argentine striker’s £19.8million Manchester City contract expired this summer after ten trophy-laden years at the Etihad.

Sergio Aguero has taken a pay cut to join Barcelona

According to Mundo Deportivo, Aguero was not short of offers across Europe with Juventus eager to offer him a new deal.

And while their offer was more generous than Barcelona’s, Aguero couldn’t resist a career swansong at the Nou Camp.

The 33-year-old will now earn a relatively modest £5.1m-a-year by his standards at Barcelona.

His dream of lining up alongside his mate and international compatriot Messi helped sway his final decision.

Barcelona’s remarkable debt, that tops £1billion, and their huge wage bill meant they were forced to offer Aguero a tighter salary than usual.

But his deal is thought to be heavily incentivised with bonuses such as more money for the number of games played and trophies won.

Aguero battled with injuries throughout the entirety of last season and was limited to just seven league starts in total.

He penned a two-year deal at the Nou Camp which includes an £86million buy-out clause.

After sealing his move, Aguero said: “We all know that Barca are the best club in the world. So I think I made a great decision to be here and I hope to help the team.
