OSCAR DE LA HOYA has called out Floyd Mayweather for a sensational rematch after he was hospitalised with Covid.

The 48-year-old has laid down the gauntlet to his old foe but said the fight will have to wait until he regains his motivation.

De La Hoya was due to face ex-UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort in September but he had to pull out after he tested positive for coronavirus.

The disease hit him hard and he needed hospital treatment.

But having been released from the healthcare facility after ‘five days of hell’, the veteran American is talking of another return to the ring – but this time against old nemesis Mayweather, 44.

De La Hoya told TMZ Sports: “Personally, right now I’m not motivated because of Covid.

“I was actually in great shape and then Covid hit me, so my morale right now is a little low in terms of me fighting in the ring personally.

“But come January, I’m sure I will get right back into it and start training again and prepare myself mentally first.

“But I do want to get out there again, possibly Cinco De Mayo (May 5).

“Who knows, it could be Floyd Mayweather.

“It’s probably the biggest fight you could make today.”

The pair famously met in May 2007 when Mayweather sneaked a win via split decision.

And it could be on again with ‘Money’ also keeping himself in excellent shape.

De La Hoya has not battled between the ropes since he was stopped by Manny Pacquiao in December 2008.

De La Hoya offered Mayweather $100million for the fight back in September.

And undefeated Floyd was said to be open to the prospect.

Mayweather officially retired in 2017 after a blockbuster bout with Conor McGregor but has fought in several exhibitions since.
