Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury winner set to be forced into fighting Michael Hunter as IBF mandatory ‘I want what’s mine’

MICHAEL HUNTER will push to enforce his IBF mandatory shot and face the winner between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.

The American is set to fight Filip Hrgovic in a IBF final eliminator to earn a mandatory shot at the world title.

Hunter, 32, told Sky Sports: “We do know it’s a business, there’s a lot of things that go on, but I think I have the opportunity to claim what’s rightfully mine and put it out there, and shine.

“I’ve got to this point. There’s been many factors to get here, but now I’ve put them in a mandatory position, it’s time to fight.

“There’s nothing else to do.”

Joshua, 31, and Fury, 32, have signed a two-fight deal to ensure a historic undisputed title decider.

For the first time in heavyweight history, all four WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO belts are set to be on the line.

But a date and venue is yet to be finalised, keeping an official announcement shelved.

Hunter came close to fighting AJ in 2019, but Andy Ruiz Jr instead filled in for drug cheat Jarrell Miller.

And he also boxed and lose to Fury in the amateurs, and he backs the Gypsy King to emerge with all the belts.

Hunter said: “It’s a very challenging fight for Anthony Joshua. I see Tyson Fury edging it out.

“I actually think Anthony Joshua is a little more consistent, to be honest.

“If Tyson Fury feels good, I think he has enough skills to almost get off the couch and give Anthony Joshua hell any day.”

Joshua beat IBF mandatory Kubrat Pulev, 39, in his last fight in December, and WBO challenger Oleksandr Usyk, 34, is next in line for his titles.

Dillian Whyte’s rematch with over Alexander Povetkin, 41, also sees him in a good position to regain his spot as Fury’s mandatory.

But both heavyweight champs have been given clearance by all the governing bodies to meet in a unification.

Hunter will be at the back of the line if he does beat Hrgovic, 28, a fight he says will not reach the final bell.

He said: “Hrgovic doesn’t even throw a jab. He just puts his hands out. I can’t see this fight going the distance.”
